The following was taken from the Yorkshire Regiment website

Died of wounds on 16 Sep 1916 aged 19. Son of Arthur and J E Ayton of Mill House, Darlington Rd, Yarm. He enlisted in Stockton while living in Yarm. Dernancourt Com Cem Extn, France

Yarm1914 believe that Benjamin was born in Eaglescliffe in 1897 to Arthur aged 31, a labourer in a flour mill and Jane Ellen nee Lonsdale aged 31. In 1901 the family lived on Aislaby Road and Benjamin had brother William aged 10 and sisters Lily aged 9, Alice aged 3 and Anne had just been born but did not survive the year. By 1911 the family had moved to Mill House, Yarm and there were two additional children Elsie aged 9 and Walter aged 7.

He is remembered on the Egglescliffe war memorial.
